In Clinic Therapy

The most common service offering at Wild at Heart Occupational Therapy is in-person therapy sessions provided by the therapist in the Humboldt clinic location. In-person therapy is provided to a pediatric client (typically between the ages of 1 year to 12 years). In the clinic we work on many different skills:

  • Emotion and Behaviour Regulation Skills - exploring different techniques to help regulate the child’s nervous system to shape desired behaviours, to reduce undesired behaviours and ease childhood anxiety

  • Sensory Integration - using a body-focused approach to building new skills using the sensory system

  • Sensory Processing - we live in a sensory rich world! Sometimes our sensory preferences are sensitive or are very seeking. An OT can help you to understand you and your child’s sensory preferences and use strategies to help positively shape your day.

  • Executive Function Skills - helping scattered brains sort out the extra information and increase attention to tasks.

  • Gross Motor Skills - balance, coordination, learning to ride a bike, engaging in sport oriented activities (running, throwing, kicking, catching, etc.).

  • Fine Motor Skills - grasp patterns, learning to print, colour, fastening zippers/buttons, opening containers, using scissors, etc.

  • Building routines for your home life to reduce frustrations and increase success (at bedtime, getting out of the house, cleaning up, big life changes, etc.)

  • Early development skills for infants, babies and toddlers

Parent Coaching Package

Do you have a child that you might consider neurodivergent but has not received a specific diagnosis? Maybe your child has recently received a diagnosis like ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Learning Disability, Generalized Anxiety Disorders, Cerebral Palsy or another unique condition.

All of these labels can be overwhelming and confusing. Most parents ultimately want to be a good parent for their unique child. But with so much conflicting information “out there”, you may not know what to believe or how to feel supported in a way that aligns with your values.

The therapist(s) at Wild at Heart Occupational Therapy are neurodiverse affirming - meaning we believe all brains, no matter their wiring, are beautiful and capable in their own way - and we are equipped with knowledge and skills to help you view your child through a strengths-based lens. While many diagnoses come with their own set of difficulties, there are also many strengths unique qualities to love about each child.

Parent coaching sessions are a place to start if you or your child has never accessed therapy before. It’s a time to talk freely about your child’s diagnosis (or developmental differences not-otherwise-diagnosed), to ask questions about their behaviours/development, to explore what these terms mean (like, what is neurodiverse, anyway?!) and for the therapist to help support you - the parent - with strategies, knowledge and a new empowered lens to view your child through.

This package requires a commitment of 5 one hour sessions completed within 8 weeks consisting of:

  • two 1 hour in-person “get to know the child and family” sessions (both sessions in-clinic or one in-clinic, one in-home for local families)

  • a 1 hour parent coaching session,

  • another 1 hour child/parent therapy session followed by,

  • the final 1 hour parent coaching session.

Parent coaching sessions can be in person, online or via phone call. The child will not be present during these sessions.

All sessions must be booked in advance upon enrolment. Eligible for Individualized ASD funding use.
